Celtics Acquire Kristaps Porzingis in Three-Team Trade

Boston Bolsters Frontcourt with All-Star Center

Porzingis Returns to Play Key Role in Celtics' Victory

BOSTON, MA - The Boston Celtics have acquired All-Star center Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards in a three-team trade, the team announced today. Porzingis, who missed the first nine games of the season due to injury, made his Celtics debut on October 25, 2023, against the New York Knicks and helped lead Boston to a 108-104 victory.

In his first game back, Porzingis scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while also blocking two shots. His return to the lineup was a major boost for the Celtics, who have struggled to find consistency in the paint this season. With Porzingis in the lineup, Boston should be able to improve its defense and rebounding, while also adding another scoring option to their offense.

The Celtics sent a 2023 Memphis first-round draft pick to the Wizards as part of the trade. The deal also included the Los Angeles Lakers, who acquired Rui Hachimura from the Wizards and sent Kendrick Nunn and two second-round picks to Washington.

Porzingis is a 7-foot-3, 240-pound center who has been selected to the All-Star team twice in his career. He averaged 22.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game last season with the Wizards. He is expected to play a major role for the Celtics this season, both on and off the court.
