Barnabas Varga Stable in Hospital After Injury

Hungary Striker Suffers Facial Injuries in Collision

Budapest, Hungary

Hungary striker Barnabás Varga is in a stable condition in hospital after breaking several bones in his face in a mid-air collision with Scotland's Grant Hanley during their Euro 2024 soccer match on Saturday.

Varga was stretchered off the pitch after the incident, which occurred in the 65th minute of Hungary's 1-0 win. The 26-year-old was making his first appearance for his country at a major tournament.

Hungary team doctor László Kiss said that Varga had suffered "multiple fractures" to his face, but that he was "stable and conscious." He added that Varga would undergo surgery on Sunday.

"It was a very scary moment," Kiss said. "But we are relieved that Barnabás is stable and that his injuries are not life-threatening."

Hungary coach Marco Rossi said that he was "proud" of his team for their victory, but that he was "very concerned" about Varga's injury.

"Barnabás is a very important player for us," Rossi said. "We will miss him for the rest of the tournament, but we know that he is in good hands and that he will make a full recovery."

Scotland manager Steve Clarke said that he was "sorry" to hear about Varga's injury.

"It was a bad collision," Clarke said. "I hope that Barnabás makes a speedy recovery."
