Boeing Whistleblower John Barnett

Boeing Whistleblower's Mother Blames Company for His Death

Former Quality Manager John Barnett Accused Boeing of Retaliation

Mother Alleges Negligence and Demands Accountability

The family of John Barnett, a former Boeing quality manager who raised concerns about the company's manufacturing practices, is blaming the aircraft manufacturer for his death. Barnett died earlier this month at the age of 62, just days after providing a deposition in a lawsuit against Boeing.

In the lawsuit, Barnett alleged that Boeing retaliated against him for reporting quality issues to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). His mother, Betty Barnett, told CBS News that she believes Boeing's actions led to her son's premature death.

"They knew about the problems and they didn't do anything to fix them," she said. "They put profits before safety, and my son paid the price."

Barnett's death is the latest in a series of tragedies that have plagued Boeing in recent years. In 2019, two Boeing 737 Max planes crashed within months of each other, killing hundreds of people. The FAA subsequently grounded the planes worldwide.

Boeing has since been accused of neglecting safety concerns in its rush to bring the Max to market. The company has also been criticized for its handling of the aftermath of the crashes, which has been described as insensitive and defensive.
