Atlas: Netflix's New Sci-Fi Epic Is a Cliché-Filled Mess

Jennifer Lopez and Simu Liu Star in This Bleak AI-Driven Future

By Mireia Mullor

Netflix's new epic, Atlas, is like a checklist of every sci-fi cliché in the book. From its bleak future to its rogue AI, this film checks off all the boxes. But even with all its familiar elements, Atlas manages to earn more than a shrug. It's a well-made film with solid performances, even if it doesn't settle any relevant or alarming debates about artificial intelligence's place in the contemporary world.

Jennifer Lopez stars as Jenny, a woman who believes she's the only one who can stop a rogue AI from destroying the world. She teams up with Simu Liu's Atlas, the AI in question, to try to save humanity. The two of them must race against time to stop the AI before it's too late.

Atlas is a visually stunning film with some impressive action sequences. The performances are also strong, with Lopez and Liu delivering their all. However, the film's script is uninspired and predictable. It's a shame, because Atlas had the potential to be a really great film. But it falls short of its potential due to its unoriginal story and lack of depth.

Overall, Atlas is a decent sci-fi action thriller. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's worth a watch if you're looking for something to pass the time. Just don't expect anything too original or thought-provoking.
